Evidence Collection: A Critical Step to a Successful Outcome
The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Evidence Response Team (ERT) was organized in 1992 and commissioned with the responsibility of organizing and conducting evidence recovery operations, both at home and abroad. The ERT’s across the nation are made up of a group of FBI personnel who have specialized training and are committed to the evidence recovery process. The purpose of the ERT is to gather evidence of a crime using a standardized, consistent, and systematic procedure, which is justifiable in a court of law. Each ERT consists of a Team Leader, Photographer, Sketch Preparer, Evidence Recorder/Custodian, Evidence Recovery Personnel and Specialists.
